Uniquely Positioned: A Human Trafficking Course for Chaplains
Course Description
It may be true that “The eye does not see what the mind does not recognize”. As a chaplain, you are uniquely positioned to be a safe person that can make a difference in a trafficking victim’s life, but if you have limited awareness of the indicators and dynamics of the trafficking world that opportunity may be missed. This course focuses on the indicators of human trafficking, utilizing pastoral skills in interacting with a person who has been trafficked and an understanding of the impact of trauma on a person’s behavior and perceptions. The presenter, Pam Hamilton served as an associate pastor before her present career as a mental health therapist and brings a unique perspective to this training.
Objectives: Participants will be able to:
Recognize indicators that lead to high risk of being trafficked
Articulate the correlation between domestic violence and human trafficking
State the impact of trauma on behavior and articulate a trauma-informed, victim centered approach to interaction with a traumatized person
Integrate pastoral skill in responding to a traumatized person
